Yelp 100 Challenge 2018

This place was so disappointing. My god, the hype is unreal. Not only was the hype unreal, but the hype of the photos and menu made it even more disappointing.

At face value, the selections looked pretty interesting. I am always looking for a decent breakfast place and am always willing to pay for decent food. I get there, and it looks nice. I definitely got that hipster vibe as soon as I walked in. There was no wait and we were seated quickly. The service seems nice. I sat down and took a look at the menu, and was torn between a few choices. I decided to be boring and play it safe with steak and eggs, and I'm glad I did because the bf did not and was very sorry indeed.

Breakfast is one of those meals that I feel can only be elevated and not ruined. Cooking eggs is a minimum skill for any decent chef, as well as cooking meat. I ordered the steak and eggs. My eggs were slightly undercooked (I asked for over hard and they were still gooey), but the meat was a perfect medium. It wasn't too tough either and was seasoned well. The hash browns were too thick and seemed stale, not crispy at all. The bread was charred and tasted accordingly. The cold brew affogato? Bitter, and the ice cream had a chunk of ice in it. All this was crazily overpriced considered how underwhelming it was. Norms typically does a better job with the steak and eggs for 4 dollars less.

This is nothing compared to the abysmal crab benedict the bf got. What a trainwreck. There was no crab taste to it whatsoever (I question whether there's even any crab it in at all), and the texture was just mushy. The rosemary potatoes he got with it were overcooked. The hollandaise sauce was also off somehow.

The most important part, however, was the general lack of good hygiene practices here. The bartender? was making drinks and touching ingredients with his bare hands. One of those ingredients was bacon for a bloody mary. There was a server who kept coughing WITHOUT COVERING HER MOUTH all over the drink lids and around the restaurant. When she finally did cover her mouth it was half-assed and I hope to god she didn't touch anyone's food. The flu season this year is unreal and really she should not be at work. I don't even want to know what goes on in the back when nobody is looking.

Don't be fooled by the photos. The atmosphere seems cool enough, service decent (minus unsanitary people), the plating is nice, but the food is not worth the cost.
