An interior design store is coming to the storefront that housed the former Cupcakes by Liz at 2310 S. Main St.
The shop, which will be called Carte Blanche Interiors, is a new business venture by Patrece Simpson, a recent graduate of the interior design program at Pittsburg (Kansas) State University.
Simpson is remodeling the New Orleans-style storefront in preparation for an opening later this spring. The shop will be stocked with furniture and other decor that Simpson will acquire after doing some market shopping.
Liz Easton, the owner of Cupcakes by Liz, retired and closed her shop in late October. She opened the shop in 2010 in a leased property that was destroyed by the tornado in 2011. She was one of the first businesses to rebuild and reopen in the tornado zone along South Main Street.
New yoga home
4 States Yoga and Restoration Center has moved into a new storefront in Oakland Plaza at 2615 N. Range Line Road. It's next door to Wiestside BBQ. The center relocated from a storefront at 3301 N. Range Line Road.
Jessica Taylor, the owner, said the yoga center needed a bigger space to offer its programs. In addition to yoga and weight-loss classes, the center offers a Barre Body class that utilizes the elements of dance cardio, ballet, yoga and Pilates. You can also enroll in beginner's yoga, prenatal yoga and tai chi. There's even a Little Yogis Club for kids.
Taylor said the center will have a visiting chef and expert on nutrition in early February, and she plans to offer a course in yoga training in April.
"We are committed to offering the community a variety of yoga classes taught by compassionate, high-quality instructors who will welcome you into their classes and help you feel comfortable and supported so you can truly experience the benefits of practicing yoga," she said in a statement on her website. "Our goal is to make yoga accessible to all who are interested."
A couples of parties have expressed interest in the former Buffalo Wild Wings property in the Northpark Crossing Shopping Center, but no deal has been inked yet.
Zach Harrell, with Scott F. Harrell and Associates, said the building could be easily transformed into another restaurant and bar because it was last used in that fashion. But it could be of interest to any retailer because of its close proximity to Kohl's and Target.
Northpark Crossing has a couple of other unoccupied storefronts that are available for lease, including the former site of Plato's Closet, which recently relocated to 1313 S. Range Line Road.
New office space
Hafeez Plaza, the stylish two-story office building that has been constructed in the tornado zone at 2613 S. Main St., has opened with a walk-in clinic and a branch medical office.
The Rahmah Convenient Care and Imaging Center has opened in the building, along with the Main Street branch of Ali Internal Medicine. Walk-ins are welcome at the convenient care center.
Lease information is available at 417-622-9149.
For some reason when this column was started many years ago, I began numbering them. Today's column, to the best of my knowledge, is No. 1,000.
You should know this was never meant to be. When the editor at the time decided he wanted a business column in the Globe, he told me to get one started and that he would hire a stringer, a freelance writer, to take it over. See how that works? There is an important lesson to be learned here, but obviously it's one I have not quite figured out yet.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the readers who have stuck with me for so long and have endured so much.
